15 Vector Geoprocessing Operations, Explained

Simple Buffer

Create a zone of a fixed distance around every feature — for setbacks, impact radii, or proximity zones.

Buffer by Feature

Same as Simple Buffer, but the distance is read from a column, so different features get different-sized buffers in one pass.

Multi-ring Buffer

Generate several concentric buffer rings at once — e.g. 100m/500m/1km impact zones.

Centroid

Reduce each polygon or line to its center point.

Convex Hull

Draw the smallest polygon enclosing a set of features.

Simplify

Reduce vertex count on complex geometry while preserving its overall shape — useful for large files.

Dissolve / Merge

Combine features that share the same attribute value into a single merged shape.

Area & Length Calculator

Add accurate area (polygons) or length (lines) as a new column, in your choice of units.

Clip

Cut one layer to the boundary of another.

Intersect

Keep only the overlapping area between two layers.

Union

Combine two layers into one, preserving all attributes from both.

Remove the area of one layer from another.

Nearest Feature

For each feature in one layer, find the closest feature in another and report the distance.

What file formats can I upload?

CSV, TSV, Excel (.xlsx/.xls), GeoJSON, Shapefile (as a .zip), and GeoPackage. For CSV/Excel, you can build geometry from latitude/longitude columns, a WKT column, or a coordinate-sequence column.

Is my uploaded data stored on your servers?

No. Files are processed in memory for your request and discarded immediately afterward — nothing is saved or retained.

What coordinate systems are supported?

Any data referenced in WGS84 (latitude/longitude). Distance and area operations automatically reproject to an appropriate local UTM zone for accurate real-world measurements, rather than computing directly on raw degrees.

What's the maximum file size?

100MB on the free tier. Larger file support is launching soon with our premium plan.
