How is the default split direction chosen?
From the polygon's own shape — the long edge of its minimum rotated bounding rectangle — rather than an arbitrary north-south default. This gives sensible strips on rotated or irregular parcels, not just simple rectangles. The angle can be adjusted manually before splitting.
Does this work on any polygon shape?
Yes, including irregular, non-rectangular shapes — verified against real irregular test polygons, not just rectangles. It currently works on a single, connected polygon without holes; multi-part polygons and polygons with interior rings aren't supported yet.
Is this tool suitable for legal/approved subdivision plans?
This is a practical splitting tool for quick, accurate lot division — it does not account for local setback rules, road access requirements, or development authority byelaws, which vary by jurisdiction. For a compliant subdivision layout, that's real planning work.

No — the parcel is automatically reprojected to an accurate local metric projection before splitting, so areas and widths come out correct in real-world units regardless of your source file's coordinate system.
